Objectively measured physical activity and academic performance in school?aged youth: The UP&DOWN longitudinal study

چکیده
To examine the longitudinal relationships between objectively measured total volume and specific intensities of physical activity (PA) with academic performance in a large sample youth aged 6-18 years. A study 1046 (10.04 ± 3.10 years) from Spain was followed over 2 PA (volume intensity) by accelerometry. Academic assessed through grades reported on transcript at end year (Mathematics, Language, an average these two core subjects, grade point [GPA]). Longitudinal four indicators were examined using covariance regression analyses, adjusted for variety confounders. Youth Quartile baseline obtained better scores than those who participated Quartiles 1 or 4 volumes GPA years later (p = 0.006). There generally no associations any (all p > 0.170). However, change light inversely associated three (?range, -.103 to - 090; all P < 040). Findings suggest that participants had comparison during youth, but there association changes time. intensity unrelated youth. inverted u-shape relationship GPA.

Objectively measured physical activity and longitudinal changes in adolescent body fatness: an observational cohort study*
BACKGROUND The data regarding prospective associations between physical activity (PA) and adiposity in youth are inconsistent. OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to investigate associations between baseline levels of objectively measured PA and changes in adiposity over 2.5 years from mid-to-late adolescence. METHODS This was an observational cohort study in 728 school students (43% ...
متن کاملObjectively measured physical activity and sedentary time in youth: the International children’s accelerometry database (ICAD)
BACKGROUND Physical activity and sedentary behaviour in youth have been reported to vary by sex, age, weight status and country. However, supporting data are often self-reported and/or do not encompass a wide range of ages or geographical locations. This study aimed to describe objectively-measured physical activity and sedentary time patterns in youth. METHODS The International Children's Ac...

BACKGROUND To test for cross-sectional (at age 11) and longitudinal associations between objectively measured free-living physical activity (PA) and academic attainment in adolescents.Method Data from 4755 participants (45% male) with valid measurement of PA (total volume and intensity) by accelerometry at age 11 from the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC) was examined. متن کاملThe association between objectively measured physical activity and academic achievement in Dutch adolescents: findings from the GOALS study.
The main goal of this study was to investigate the association between objectively measured physical activity and academic achievement in adolescents. Students in Grades 7 and 9 (N = 255) were included. Overall, we found no significant dose-response association between physical activity and academic achievement. However, in Grade 7 total physical activity volume (Total PA) was negatively associ...
متن کاملObjectively measured physical activity has a negative but weak association with academic performance in children and adolescents.
AIM There is an emerging body of evidence on the potential effects of regular physical activity on academic performance. The aim of this study was to add to the debate, by examining the association between objectively measured physical activity and academic performance in a relatively large sample of children and adolescents. METHODS The Spanish UP & DOWN study is a 3-year longitudinal study ...
